Push to move Cascadia out of Bothell fizzles out for this year | Politics
Title (Max 100 Charaters)
The push to try and combine Cascadia Community College with Lake Washington Technical College and move CCC out of Bothell has run out of steam, at least for this year.
Tom Corrigan at the Bothell Reporter writes on the relief of Cascadia president William Christopher had in seeing the proposal put forth by Rep. Mark Ericks, D-Bothell, to require Cascadia and LWTC to study a merger and combining the two colleges in Kirkland. The proviso, inserted in the budget bill that was being considered by the state House, was removed last week.
The idea of a merger first surfaced in December, when an Everett Herald story said that UW-Bothell Chancellor Kenyon Chan had talked with a number of lawmakers about forcing Cascadia off of their shared Bothell campus so that UWB could expand. UWB officials have stated publicly that they didn't initiate the talks.
