It seems that the chance of being a cultural envoy to Pakistan comes around once every 30 years or so. But that was the chance UW-Bothell professor Kanta Kochhar-Lindgren was given.
She spent 11 days in Karachi, Pakistan's largest city, discussing the importance of the arts in the city's diverse communities. She also performed the play "Water Calligraphy", which deals with water issues, with Faisal Malik, the artistic director of the Pakistani Thespianz Theatre. She also led a discussion with local leaders on the importance of the arts for deaf and disabled people.
Kochhar-Lindgren is an associate professor in UWB's Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences Program. She was the first American Cultural Envoy to Karachi in 30 years. The US Consulate in Karachi and the State Department sponsored her trip.
