UW-Bothell student investment team heading to NYC for Americas challenge | Business
Five MBA students from UW-Bothell will be heading to New York City next month to participate in a hemispheric investment research contest.
The team of Ahmed Khalil, Teddy Lin, Matrick McShane, Ashna Nagi and Shau Pang won the Pacific Northwest Investment Research Challenge on February 5, which qualified them for the Americas Investment Research Challenge in New York. If they can win that, then they travel to Hong Kong in April for the Global Investment Research Challenge.
The UWB team competed against teams from WSU, UW, PLU, WWU, Seattle U. and U. of Puget Sound in the regional competition. Each team had two months to produce an investment advisory report for a local company, which this year was Fisher Communications (Disclaimer: KOMONews.com and Fisher Interactive Network are part of Fisher Communications). After they made their presentation to certified financial analysts and senior managers at Fisher, they were judged to have the best report and won the competition.
They now travel to New York to compete against 30 other teams from North and South America to win the regional competition. It's a tough one; a team from Sao Paulo, Brazil won the regional last year.
The faculty sponsor for the team is Prof. Gowri Shankar.
